Emergency teams have not rescued any survivors from the Christchurch rubble overnight, police say.
Superintendent Russell Gibson says search and rescue teams are still hopeful of finding people alive in some of the collapsed buildings.
“We continue to work on the CTV building and the PG building. It’s a hard slow process,” he told 3News.
“We are hopeful we may find survivors but as time passes, hope fades.”
It’s about 24 hours since rescuers have had phone contact with people trapped in the rubble.
