Give Me A Lever Long Enough & A Place To Stand & I Will Move The World – But Where Will It Roll?

This illustration below appears at the front of the book Fixing The Sky, (2010) by historian of science and technology, James Rodger Fleming.

Fleming addresses the checkered history of weather and climate control.  On page 191 he refers to a prominent article titled “Can We Survive Technology?”  (1955) by scientist, John Von Neumann (1903-1957),  who described climate control as a thoroughly “abnormal” industry, but believed that weather control using chemical agents and climate control through modifying surface albedo or otherwise managing solar radiation, were distinct possibilities for the near  future.

Wrote Fleming: “He argued that such intervention could have “rather fantastic effects” on a scale difficult to imagine.  He pointed out that it was not necessarily rational to alter the climate of specific regions or purposely trigger a new ice age.  Tinkering with the Earth’s heat budget or the atmosphere’s general circulation “will merge each nation’s affairs with those of every other more thoroughly than the threat of a nuclear or any other war may have already done.” In his opinion, climate control, like other “intrinsically useful” modern technologies, could lend itself to unprecedented destruction and to forms of warfare not yet imagined.”

In the conclusion, Fleming wrote (page 267): “We should cultivate a healthy dose of humility, even awe, before the complexities of nature (and human nature)…Adopt the Hippocratic prescription…: “to help, or at least to do no harm.”

How can spraying tonnes of toxins into the atmosphere each year not cause any harm?

“Give me a lever long enough and a place to stand, and I will move the world” (Archimedes), but where will it roll? (Mechanics Magazine, 1824, and original art from Fixing The Sky, 2010, by James Rodger Fleming).

Some facts of life you might want to share

Thanks for the link Beth. Fleming does not mention in his book that geo-engineering is occurring on a massive scale already. There is no mention of HAARP either.
And the man-made global warming hoax is referred to repeatedly as the reason behind these schemes. It was disappointing to see it riddled with propaganda.
A lot of books at the library in the weather section seem replete with propaganda.
