Time lapse video footage was shot of the sky from Hira near Nelson, New Zealand on February the 15th, 2014 by Tate Ulsaker, who pointed the camera northwards, towards Cable Bay for approximately 3 hours. The footage was condensed to 24 seconds and shows multiple aerosol trails that have been put into the atmosphere.
Thank-you very much to Tate Ulsaker for going to the trouble of shooting this and thank-you to those who took the still photos of aerosol trails that day. The photos show the trails spreading out and forming an unsightly white haze, a haze which was apparent in satellite imagery over Cook Strait later that day.
These trails are having an impact on the visual appearance of New Zealand’s skies and its weather and should be acknowledged by the political and meteorological communities and studied, not dismissed as mere vapour trails and treated as a joke.
